Learning Centers Centers take on many forms and can be used throughout the curriculum. Centers as a strategy is highly engaging, it teaches through multiple modalities, and it promotes student ownership of learning.
Number Talks, Venn Diagrams, Direct Instruction, Chalk Talks, Interactive White/Smart Board, Think-Writes, Reciprocal Teaching, Modelling, Field Trips, Simulations, Inquiry, Peer Critiques, Conferencing, and Targeted Feedback are all Instructional Strategies I have used successfully either in the Gen Ed Classroom, the Art Classroom, or both!
Cooperative Learning Partner and group work allows student collaboration and peer learning. Partner and group work - Social Constructivism at its best!
Movement Lessons that include opportunities for Movement allow students to learn with their whole body, especially important in the younger grades.
I create Relevant Worksheets for specific learning gains, for specific texts or other media. They help student zero in on exactly what needs to be learned through a particular task.
Similarly, Graphic Organizers help students make sense of their thoughts and ideas so they can express them more succinctly at a later time.
