The Truth About Assessment
Assessment is an important part of the learning process. It is an opportunity for students to become aware of their progress and take ownership of their own growth.
Assessment provides a unique dialogue that adds to a rich learning experience. As learners our brains make new connections with each new concept. This occurs in the assessment dialogue. Organized and purposeful formative assessment informs instructional planning. It allows me to know what my students are thinking and where they are at in the process of understanding new information. Standards-based summative assessment shows the learner's team of self and parents, teachers and instructional specialists what the student has learned over time. |
